Lauren Edelstein presents Ticket Face, a collection that reimagines iconic artworks through thousands of layered emojis. The series transforms works by Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Georgia O’Keeffe, Pablo Picasso, Edvard Munch and others.
In Edelstein’s version of The Scream, titled Dating in New York City, bagels form the figure’s hollow eyes, while gym shorts, jellyfish, and fortune cookies swirl into a chaotic sky. Ticket Face (Shot Sage Blue Marilyn) takes the form of a lightbox, with Monroe’s face illuminated on panels of layered plexiglass. Her blonde hair is reinterpreted as cheese wedges and blackbirds, her electric blue eyeshadow as dolphins, and her face as layers of tickets—a nod to Monroe’s complex relationship with fame and Warhol’s pop artistry.
Balancing irreverence with exacting detail, Edelstein’s work subverts the familiar and casts it in a contemporary light.
